STRATEGIC INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIP | MOU SIGNING CEREMONY

MIRI, 24 JULY 2026 – Riam Institute of Technology (RiamTec) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mercure Miri City Centre at Shin Yang Hall to develop industry-ready hospitality professionals. Today’s signature marks tomorrow’s success—this MoU represents a shared commitment to invest in people, inspire future talent, and shape the future of hospitality in Sarawak.

Through this partnership, Mercure Miri City Centre is proud to partner with RiamTec to provide Culinary Arts and Patisserie students with immersive On-the-Job Training (OJT), industry exposure, and meaningful mentorship that bridges classroom learning with real-world hotel operations. The collaboration will also focus on curriculum enhancement, industry engagement, knowledge sharing, and embedding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into practical learning.

As Mercure Miri City Centre’s General Manager, Shan Ravendran, shared:

“Nurturing local talent and bridging classroom learning with real-world operations is vital to building a resilient tourism ecosystem in Sarawak. Our collaboration with RiamTec extends beyond standard internships to create a true two-way knowledge exchange. By hosting students, sharing industry expertise, supporting curriculum development, and embedding ESG principles into practical learning, we are actively empowering Miri’s next generation of hospitality leaders.”

The collaboration was brought to life even before the MoU was officially signed. Prior to the ceremony, Mercure Miri City Centre’s People & Culture Executive, Calvin Tumy, conducted an engaging On-the-Job Training (OJT) Briefing for RiamTec students. The session introduced students to workplace expectations, professional etiquette, and essential skills, offering valuable insights to help them make the most of their internship journey while preparing them for successful careers in the hospitality industry.


Together, RiamTec and Mercure Miri City Centre are not just creating internship opportunities we are cultivating future leaders, strengthening industry-academia collaboration, and building a more resilient and sustainable tourism ecosystem for Sarawak.
